Coffee Mugs & Love Accordion Book

Today is day two of my introduction of my 3 newest stencils from Stencil Girl.  Here are step out photos showing how I made an accordion coffee book with the Coffee Mugs & Love stencil, which looks like this:

I had received a box from Amazon (how odd is that??) that contained lots of small rectangles of cardboard to prevent the contents from moving around.  I decided they would make a great book!   I was inspired by this tutorial by Michelle Ward on making an Upcycled Cardboard Journal.

I took a piece of card stock from my stash and cut it to the height of the rectangles.  Then I scored it and created an accordion fold for each of the pieces of cardboard.  (Here is a video tutorial on creating a hidden hinged binding.... I wish I had watched it before I stumbled through this project!)

I coated all of the rectangles with clear gesso to seal them and fortify them, and also give them some "tooth."  Then I used white gesso to coat the pieces that would be the back and front covers of my book.

I used the Paisley Floral Repeat stencil to add a pattern to the covers.  I liked it so much that I added it to all the pieces of cardboard.  (Tomorrow, I will share a video showing how I created unique fabric using this stencil!)

Then I adhered one side of each rectangle to the accordion folded card stock using tacky glue.  My two gesso containers were great weights!

While the book was drying, I spread embossing paste through the stencil onto card stock.

Once the book and all the embossing paste was dry, I got to work collaging and decorating all the "pages."

I found some great quotes on Pinterest that just rounded out the book.

I'm thinking that a book like this plus a bag of good coffee beans would make a sweet gift!

Leave a comment to be part of the giveaway for one of my three new stencils!  Yesterday's post about the Happy Birthday Stencil is here, and tomorrow I will post about the Paisley Floral Repeat.  All comments over all three days will be in the hat!
