Stretching My Brain Through Stitching and Giveaway

I'm on Stencil Girl Talk today showing some journal covers I made with the February Stencil Club stencils.  There's a video there too -- hope you'll hop over and take a look!   And there's a giveaway at the end of this blog post, so please read to the end!

Before we get started, I wanted to announce the winner of the Valentine's tag.  It is Kay Wallace!  Congrats Kay.

The tag is on its way to you!.
After taking Kecia's and Linda's fabulous stitching and sewing class at Art is You, resulting in these prayer flag style valances, I decided to teach myself to embroider.   I found Mary Corbet's YouTube channel and started adding new embroidery stitches to my repertoire.

I have fallen in love with using my stencils to create custom-patterened fabric.  It is so much fun to stencil on fabrics, and then use embroidery to embellish my designs.

You can see past posts about stenciling and stitching here.

Recent creations:

This is the Horned Owl stencil from Stencil Girl Products, jazzed up with different embroidery stitches.

Here is the Shiva Stencil over the Cascading Leaves Stencil with seed stitches, french knots and other embroidery stitches.

I even put the scraps to good use, as leaves on a tree...

with elements from Traci Bautista's Tropical Floral stencil...
Or petals on a flower.

Using words from Carolyn Dube's Uplifting Words, and my Tea (love), Doors (adventure) and Judy's Trees (Grow) stencils.

Here's what happens to these panels when I finish them!

GIVEAWAY: I also made mug mats with a bunch of the scraps.  Want one?  Leave me a comment with your email address.  I will pick someone by 9AM Friday morning!

And please hop over to Stencil Girl Talk for a step by step for how to create journals with fabric covers,  and a video for fabric printing with stencils!

Valentine Tag Tutorial and Giveaway

I'm hitting a personal record this year with Valentine creations.  (To see some more, click Valentine

Make sure to leave a comment to be in the running for one of these tags!

These started when I was playing on book paper with the February Stencil Club Stencils designed by Carolyn Dube.  They are so fun.  Check out Carolyn's reveal video on the Stencil Girl Talk blog today.
I used Golden Fluorescent Heavy Body paint to create these bright patterns.

I ripped the pages into strips, and then wove them together on another page.

I coated both sides of my "weave" with matte medium so it would all stay together.

I free-handed a heart, traced it and cut it out of the center of several 3 x 6 manila tags.  I stamped the tags using text and music notes, and then inked up the tags using distress inks.

I cut out rectangles of my woven paper large enough to fit behind the heart opening.

Then I adhered the rectangle to a blank tag, and stitched the two tags together.  (You could use glue.)

I embellished the tags with more stitchingand Viva Decor modeling creme dragged through various stencils, including Hearts, Flowers and More,  Traci Bautista's Tropical Floral Stencil,  and Joanne Sharpe's designs for November 2013 Stencil Club.

I added the word "Love" from my Teapots and Teacups stencil.  (Tip: Look at your stencils for little bits and pieces you can use in different projects!)

GIVEAWAY! I will giveaway one of these tags to one commenter.  Make sure to leave me your email address if you want to be considered for the giveaway.

The giveaway for these tags is closed, and the winner is Kay Wallace! Thank you Kay.  The tag is on its way to you!
I am so grateful for the reception my RubberMoon stamps have received.  Thank you all so much for commenting on the post and telling me your three favorites.  The winner of 3 of my new stamps from RubberMoon is:

Congratulations Linda!  Email your snail mail address to me at jessicasporndesigns at gmail dot com and I will have them on their way to you!
